I grew up in a small town outside of Chicago with my 6 siblings and Mother, a Southern Woman, born in New Orleans and raised in St Louis by Irish and German parents, and my Father, a first Generation Italian American. Theirs was a marriage of blending of Italian, Irish and German customs. Both sets of Grandparents were very challenged to accept the others' ways. But, they all did so with grace. This sense of grace was grounded in strong Spiritual and Religious Convictions. It was commonplace to hear at the Kitchen Table a conversation/discussion of theological issues.
My Father was transferred to NYC when I was in high school. My two younger siblings and I moved with my Parents to Yardley, PA (a commuter community to NYC). It was the first time my family had been split up and it was very difficult. So difficult that my older siblings all changed Universities and Careers to move out with the rest of us to Pennsylvania. Family has always been a huge part of my life; my Siblings were my friends.
Over the years, we were all married. The blending attitudes of my parents created in their children open minds and inclusive attitudes. So much that we now have quite an International Family. I have Brothers in Law from Spain, Ireland, and England, a Sister in Law from Guatemala and my husband who is Jewish. When we have family gatherings, you can hear English, Spanish, Italian, and maybe a little Yiddish being spoken.
Because of my family, I have learned that life is the opportunity to explore and take on new adventures. I love to learn and have quite an assortment of degrees, licenses, and knowledge. I have an Associates Degree in Hotel/Motel Management; a Bachelor's Degree in Theology; I had my Insurance License for 14 years; and have now reissued my Real Estate License. Along the way, I made a hobby of learning about Medicine; one of my girls had many medical issues growing up. I even took some Medical classes at Univeristy. I also have self-taught knowledge of Interior Design. My 20+ year collection of Architectural Digest and Elle Decor and other magazines as well as many design books, have given me considerable knowledge. So much so, when we undertook a home remodel and hired an Architect, he was quite amazed at my ability to see the design from the drawings. As a matter of fact, he said that I was the only client he had that sent HIM drawings.
My career has taken me full circle back to Real Estate. I started as a Conveyancer with Roach Brothers in the late 80's; then moved to the Real Estate Law Firm of Larrabee and Cunningham in Philadelphia. While raising my family of three girls with my husband of 25 years, I became a licensed Property/Casualty Insurance Agent. My capacity there was as a telemarketer, sales agent and director of marketing and sales at my family's insurance agency, LaPlaca Insurance in Lansdale. Now that our last child is in her last year of high school, I have come back to my passion of Real Estate. And I'm happy to be back with Roach Brothers - now Berkshire Hathaway Fox & Roach, looking forward to using my interpersonal skills to communicate with people of vast and differing backgrounds; my analytical skills to determine the criteria to target properties; my design skills to help others imagine and see and my hospitality skills to make people at ease and my spirit to transport a feeling of care, concern, and adventure.
